Switzerland’s largest saltwater battery storage in operation

The safe and environmentally friendly 100 kWh battery storage is based on salt water electrolyte.

“We do not want to make any compromises in terms of safety and environmental compatibility for our school and kindergarten. Therefore we decided to install GREENROCK saltwater batteries and its intelligent energy management system.”  Says client Mr. Jörg Müller. We are proud to have commissioned the first major installation in Switzerland.”

100kWh GREENROCK Küsnacht

The new school complex in Küsnacht/Goldbach is set up with state of the art technolgoies for sustainability. There is a photovoltaic system with a total of 62.5 kWp on the roof. Inside there is Switzerland’s largest saltwater battery storage. Optimizing self-consumption in solar energy is one of the main goals. The project was implemented by our partner Helion .

Details about the installation:

  • PV systems with 50 kWp and 12,5 kWp
  • 100 kWh GREENROCK battery storage – AC coupled
  • Off-grid operation for 12,5 kW available, predefined loads are supplied
  • UPS-capable: 24 kW uninterruptible supply for backup power for defined loads

In a second step, sector coupling for hot water supply and an e-charging wall for electric cars are planned.

Küsnacht in the canton of Zurich is awarded now three times with the label “Energiestadt Gold”. This award stands for consistent energy policy and sustainability. The sustainable construction of the Goldbach school complex with its saltwater battery storage from GREENROCK  contributes to the label.

In contrast to conventional battery storage, the GREENROCK salt water storage is non-flammable, non-explosive and absolutely maintenance-free. The salt water battery is safe to touch and therefore perfect for sites such as schools, agriculture, family homes and businesses.
