National Battery Day

Today, the US are celebrating National Battery Day. We happily join in and think it a good reason to celebrate.

Nowadays, life without batteries wouldn’t be possible.

Why are we celebrating National Battery Day on the 18th of February?

It is the birthday of Alessandro Volta. Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta was born on 18 February 1745 in Como (Italy). He is considered to be a co-founder of the science of electricity and the inventor of the electric battery. Around 1800, he constructed the voltaic pile, which is considered to be the first battery. His battery consisted of copper and zinc plates stacked on top of each other, which he separated with textiles soaked in brine.

An additional reason to celebrate. 275 years later, we are convinced of saltwater electrolyte and use it in our safe and environmentally friendly GREENROCK saltwater batteries.

Alessandro Volta was allowed to call himself Count of Volta from 1810. Much more important than this title is probably the fact that the electrical voltage is called Volt in his honour.

Which “holidays” are celebrated today, February 18?
National Thumb Appreciation Day
Elm Farm Ollie Day
Drink Wine Day
Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
Pluto Day

A strange collection of “holidays”. Since 2006 Pluto is no longer considered a planet and is classified as an asteroid. We think Pluto and the battery are the ones to be honored today. Anyway we will celebrate the others as well. Ice cream for breakfast. We dedicate the working day to our GREENROCK saltwater batteries. We need our thumbs to share this article. In the evening we have a glass of wine while looking up at the starry sky and dream then we dream of flying dairy cows and Elm Farm Ollie.
